ACHA UKATILI PROJECT

GCI is currently implementing the three months project called “ACHA UKATILI PROJECT” aimed at reducing violence against women and children (VAWC) at family and community level in Shinyanga District Council, Shinyanga Region, which has been funded by Women Fund Tanzania-Trust (WFT-T). The project covering three wards of Shinyanga district council which are Nsalala ward (Nshishinulu, Ng’wamkanga, Welezo and Nsalala villages), Itwangi ward (Itwangi, Kidanda, Butini and Zobogo villages) and Lyamidati ward with its villages (Lyamidati, Iyogelo, Kadoto, Mwabasa, Mwasele, Bukiliguru, and Ihugi). The project beneficiaries are men, boys, girls and women and targeted to reach a total of 1,468 beneficiaries in the period of December, 2022 to February, 2023. 


The interventions which are currently implementing to achieve a goal of reducing VAWC includes Identify and train Village Champions of Change on GBV, Reporting, Protection and Referral Mechanisms. Cascade ant-GBV awareness raising sessions to traditional and Village elders (WAZEE WA MILA, WAZEE WA NZENGO, KAMANDA WA SUNGUSUNGU). Conduct male engagement dialogue sessions through informal structures (VIJIWE VYA WACHEZA BAO, BODABODA, DALADALA, VIJIWE VYA KAHAWA) focusing on ending VAWC. Conduct intergenerational dialogue sessions to challenge harmful norms and values that perpetuate VAWC at family and community level. Conduct monthly refresher meetings to strengthen one ward junior council to empower children demand for child rights, child protection and safeguarding targeting children and identify peer champions to be at frontline to end VAWC.
